To gain access to Production environments or request a higher rate limit for most APIs, you will need to provide DHL Customer Credentials, such as your Shipping Account Number. Hence, we recommend that you first become a customer.

How can I become a DHL Customer?

Our Global DHL Business Website is your starting point! Select the relevant country or region to get a tailored experience:

DHL operates through multiple Business Divisions, each serving specific purposes and available in certain markets.

  • Not all DHL services are offered everywhere.
  • Not all DHL Divisions operate globally.

Non-Customer Use Cases

We understand that not every intended API user has a DHL Account Number, as not all users are direct DHL customers.
The DHL API Developer Portal is designed to welcome a broader audience. Below, you’ll find guidance on how to proceed for the most common use cases.

► Marketplaces

Marketplaces with an established relationship with DHL may request API access by explaining their case. An Account Number may not be required.

► DHL Partners

Official DHL partners are usually exempt from the Account Number requirement. They must provide evidence of the partnership when requesting access.

► Third-Party Vendors

Issuance of API credentials is limited to DHL customers and stakeholders. Third-party vendors, such as Integrators or IT Consultant Companies, can't request access to an API on behalf of a DHL customer. To comply with data protection regulations, the actual DHL customer must be the one who requests and obtains API access.

Once credentials are issued, customers are free to manage them as they see fit, including sharing them with Third-party vendors. However, customers are fully responsible for the proper management—and any misuse—of their API credentials by external providers with whom they share access.
